thank you so much for visiting my blog. Once again business sent em to china to finish an important project. As the internet connection in Nanjing was really slow, I had to wait until today to share some impressions with you (right now I’m an a hotel in Shanghai).
On Saturday I had a day off, so together with a colleague from our Chinese office I did some sightseeing in Nanjing.
First we visited the Zijinshan Astronomical Observatory on the purple mountain and had a look at some old astronomical instruments from China and also at some more modern ones from Zeiss Jena, Germany.
Here is one of the domes for astronomical research. Maybe I somewhen mentioned I also do astonomical observations in my free time, so this area was quite interesting for me. Also really interesting and also quite impressive was this old Chines instrument for observations – not only from scientific but also from a historic point of view. Furthermore – the ornaments are really amazing … Here you can see a picture my colleage took of me also showing my outfit for this day:The observatory on this mountain is still used for research, so they not just have one dome there, but many more …
In one room there was an exhibition showing paintings of astronomical objects and in the center of this a big refractor – a telescope working with lenses from a time where you still watched the stars using a human eye instead of today’s ccd cameras … Some fascinating aspect in China is the combination of modern elements with old, traditional architecture. This gate for example leads to another dome … containing a reflector from Carl Zeiss, Jena with a diameter of 600 mm. During the next days I will show you more impressions from the “Purple Mountain” in Nanjing. Now I just want to thank you once again for stopping by and hopefully you will
Have a wonderful time!
